PPF condemns entrance ban on Russian journalist in Moldova

Pakistan Press Foundation (PPF) in a letter to Igor Dodon, President of Moldova has expressed concern over the ban on journalist Olga Yuryeva from entering Moldova.

PPF Secretary General Owais Aslam Ali in his letter has condemned this act of country’s law enforcement agencies and termed it an attack on media freedom. PPF also urged the authorities to immediately lift ban on journalist’s entry in Moldova.

According to Institute of Mass Information, the border forces barred Yuryeva, a journalist for Russian TV channel Russia- 1 from entering the country as she returned from Istanbul.

During the verification process it was revealed that the journalist was forced to take the same flight and return to Istanbul. Though further details on Yuryeva’s visit to Moldova was reported.

The journalists planned to interview the President of the Republic of Moldova, Igor Dodon.

It was reported earlier on February 19th, the Republic has banned the entrance of five Russian journalists working for channels NTV and Russia-1.

The reason for the ban on journalist’s entry was given that they failed to clarify the aim of the visit to Moldova. They have also not informed the respective authorities in the country of their visit.
