Mending our ways

Just a few days back, Friday was declared ‘Youm-e-Ishq-e-Rasool’ by our government and now the same anger is directed towards the Railways Minister Ghulam Ahmed Bilour’s announcement of bounty for killing the anti-Islam US film-maker. This is not the first time that the Muslim world has witnessed such vicious anti-Islam propagandas and blasphemous material yet the leaderships has so far done nothing to tell the so-called upholders of ‘freedom of speech’ that there should be an end to the extremism against Islam and the Muslims, or our government should show courage to boycott the countries concerned to express their grief.

In everyday reality there is no serious effort on our part to please Allah and His Messenger(s). It is also not ‘Ishq’ when we vandalize loot and burn our own country and the poor of our nation, to express our ‘anger’ we further annoy Allah and his Prophet(PBUH) who brought the message of peace and mercy for all mankind. We need to do some serious soul searching and see do we fear Allah? Are we holding his words in our hearts, so that our thoughts and deeds are those that are acceptable to Allah. We need to go back to our roots, and the kindness shown by our Prophet (PBUH) should be practiced when dealing with our own as well as others lives and property.TARIQ ANWAAR, Scarbrough, September 26.
