SHIKARPUR: A senior\njournalist associated with a Sindhi daily was shot and wounded by some masked\nassailants near the Gul Wah (irrigation channel) area here on Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jameel Ahmed Mahar,\nalso the senior vice president of Shikarpur Union of Journalists (SUJ), was\nchased and attacked in the area falling within the limits of Chak police\nstation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Area residents told\npolice and local reporters that he was followed by two assailants riding a\nmotorcycle and escorted by some people riding a car. They said that the pillion\nrider fired several shots at him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr Mahar sustained\nbullet wounds in his legs. Onlookers rushed him to the Lakhi Taluka Hospital,\nwhere doctors provided him emergency medical aid and referred him to the Sukkur\nCivil Hospital for further treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A large number of\nmedia personnel visited him at the hospital to inquire about his health.\nDoctors later told them that his condition was stable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SUJ president Agha\nIsrar Ahmed, Shikarpur Press Club president Rahmatullah Soomro, and\noffice-bearers of the two institutions, Sikh Seva Society chairperson Sardar\nRam Singh as well as the journalist community and other media personnel of the\ndistrict strongly condemned the attack and demanded immediate arrest of the\nassailants.\n\nMr Mahar is associated\nwith Sindhi daily Koshish\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
