\nISLAMABAD: On World Press Freedom Day, Pakistan condemns India over repression\nof media and harassment of journalists in Indian occupied Jammu & Kashmir\n(IoJ&K).
\n
\nOn World Press Freedom Day, we express solidarity with the journalist\nfraternity in the Indian Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IoJ&K), which\ncontinues to face a relentless campaign of harassment and intimidation. While\nsaluting their exceptional courage, we also honour the sacrifice of those\nKashmiri journalists who have laid down their lives in the line of duty. The\nlatest among those martyrs was Shujaat Bukhari in June 2018.
\n
\nIt is commendable that Kashmiri journalists continue to work with conviction\nand professionalism, despite the heavy handedness of Indian forces acting with\nimpunity under the draconian Public Safety Act (PSA), Armed Forces Special\nPowers Act (AFSPA), and Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).
\n
\nGlobal media watchdogs, Indian and international human rights groups, and civil\nsociety organizations have expressed deep concerns over unprecedented\nrestrictions imposed on the media, the widespread intimidation of Kashmiri\njournalists, and the precarious state of their work environment.
\n
\nIt is clear that the RSS-inspired BJP Government is motivated by the sole\nobjective of hiding its blatant human rights violations in IOJ&K and is\nbent on muzzling independent voices of the media and journalists. The situation\nhas become more alarming after India\u2019s illegal and unilateral actions of 5\nAugust 2019.

\nPakistan condemns this Indian campaign of harassment and intimidation and calls\nupon India to immediately lift all communication restrictions in IOJ&K;\nwithdraw frivolous cases filed against Kashmiri journalists; and restore all fundamental\nfreedoms of the Kashmiri people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
