LAHORE: The National\nAccountability Bureau (NAB) on Friday filed its reference before an\naccountability court in a 34-year-old land allotment case against Jang group\neditor-in-chief Mir Shakilur Rehman, former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and two\nothers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The reference filed\nunder section 18 (g) read with section 24 (b) of the National Accountability\nOrdinance 1999 accused Rehman of illegally obtaining exemption of 54 plots each\nmeasuring one-kanal situated in Block-H, Johar Town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other two suspects\nare Lahore Development Authority (LDA) former director general Humayon Faiz\nRasool and land development department\u2019s former director Mian Bashir Ahmad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The reference said\nthe land allotment had been in connivance with then chief minister Nawaz Sharif\nagainst the exemption policy and the laws for monitory gains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It said the suspects\ncaused a loss of Rs143.53 million to the national exchequer through allotment\nof the land in violation of exemption policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It said the evidence\ncollected during the investigation proved that it is just and proper to proceed\nagainst the suspects and they be tried by the court and punished under the law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this case, the\nNAB had arrested Rehman while Mr Sharif had been declared absconded for his\ncontinuous non-appearance before the investigation team. Mr Sharif is in London\nfor treatment following a permission given by courts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The other two\nsuspects, the LDA officials, were not arrested by the NAB, but interrogated\nonly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr Rehman is now in\njail on judicial remand while his bail petition is pending before the Lahore\nHigh Court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
