KARACHI – Sindh\nMinister for Information Syed Nasir Hussain Shah on Sunday said, the progress\nand promotion of democracy in the country was not possible without journalists.\nIn a message on World Press Freedom Day, he said PPP stand with journalists\ncommunity against every discrimination. Nasir Shah said the PPP valued sacrifices\nrendered by journalists for the restoration of democracy in the country.\nFulfilment of actual rights of the journalists of the country was need of the\nhour, he concluded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, the world\npress freedom day was observed here like other parts of the country on Sunday\n(May 3) in a bid to stand up for freedom of press and journalists around the\nworld.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The members of\nHyderabad Union of journalists (HUJ) took out a rally to show solidarity with\nthe fellow media workers who were facing difficulties while discharging their\nduties all over the world including Pakistan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Addressing the\nrally, PFUJ and HUJ office bearers said media workers and journalists had\nalways played an important role in restoration of democracy in the country and\nstill they were playing their part for fundamental rights of the vulnerable\nsection of society. The central leader of Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists\nKhalid Khokhar, HUJ president Iqbal Mallah and others paid rich tributes to\nthose journalists who had sacrificed their lives for the cause of press\nfreedom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They called upon the\ngovernment to provide protection to journalists who were being targeted by\ninfluential persons and entities because of their reporting. The participants\nof the rally also demanded the arrest of murderers of Mehrabpur based\njournalist Aziz Memon who was strangulated to death some months ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SUKKUR: Sukkur Union\nof Journalist (SUJ) on Sunday observed the Press Freedom Day to raise awareness\nof the importance of freedom of press and reminded the world of their duty to\nrespect and uphold the right to freedom of expression.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Journalists across\nthe region held rallies outside the Press Club led by PFUJ\u2019s vice president\nLala Asad Pathan to express solidarity with journalists across the globe.\nRallies\/protests also held in Khairpur, Shikarpur, Kashmore, Noshehrofroze,\nGhotki and other districts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Govt believes in\nfreedom of Press:Khurrum Sher Zaman<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pakistan\nTehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Karachi Division President and Member Sindh Assembly\nKhurrum Sher Zaman on Sunday said that the present government believed in the\ncomplete freedom of press. In a message on the occasion of World Press Freedom\nDay, he paid tributes to the struggle of journalists. The MPA said that\njournalists in Pakistan had rendered great sacrifices. The journalism was a\nsacred and honorable profession. Khurrum said that journalism was an important\nsource of creating awareness among the masses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The MPA said he\nsaluted the courage and greatness of the brave journalists and the journalists\nwho were martyred in the line of duty would always be remembered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Khurrum Sher Zaman\nsaid that in the current situation of coronavirus, the media workers were also\nfront line soldiers. He said that the journalists along with political parties\nhad made great sacrifices for the restoration of democracy in the country. The\npresent government believed in the freedom of Press. The media had also played\nvital role in disseminating PTI version from house-to-house,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
