On June 25, Zafar Achakzai, a journalist working for Daily \u201cQudrat\u201d,\u00a0was abducted by men in plain clothes from his home in Quetta the\u00a0capital of Pakistan\u2019s restive province of Balochistan.\u00a0 Achakzai’s\u00a0whereabouts remain unknown though local journalists believe he was\u00a0\u00a0picked up by the paramilitary Frontier Corps.<\/p>\n

According to local journalists Achakzai was picked up for the comments\u00a0he had posted on Facebook criticizing security agencies and police for\u00a0the way they had arrested Majeed Khan Achakzai, a member of the\u00a0provincial assembly, for killing a traffic police constable in a hit\u00a0and run car accident.<\/p>\n

The abduction of Achakzai without proper arrest warrants follows the\u00a0pattern started this year for harassing bloggers and social media\u00a0activists.\u00a0 Earlier in the year, unidentified persons abducted six\u00a0bloggers and social media activists.\u00a0 Five were released after more\u00a0than two weeks, though one, Samar Abbas, remains missing. The bloggers\u00a0alleged they were tortured during their detention, possibly with the\u00a0involvement of government agencies. No one has been held accountable\u00a0for the kidnapping or alleged torture and no action has been taken by\u00a0the government to investigate these cases.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
