PPF concerned about the suspension of daily “Al-Wasat” in Bahrain

Pakistan Press Foundation (PPF) in a letter to the Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Bahrain expressed concern over the suspension of “Al Wasat” in Bahrain on June 4 publish an article allegedly insulted “sisterly Arab state”. PPF Secretary General Owais Aslam Ali, in his letter, urged the government of Bahrain to reverse the decision of Al-Wasat newspaper suspension and allow the newspaper to continue its publication. According to Arabic Network for Human Rights Information (ANHRI), decision of the Minister of Information Affairs’ suspends “Al-Wasat” newspaper without any court order constitutes a blatant violation of freedom of opinion and information sharing. Decision to suspend the circulation of Al-Wasat newspaper until further notice, alleging that the newspaper had violated the laws and spreading the divisions in society and affects the Kingdom of Bahrain and relations with other countries. Earlier November 2016, Bahraini authorities suspended the electronic version of Al- Was at under the same allegations. And also August 6, 2015, authorities suspended the newspaper then resumed its publication on August 11on the same year.
